Journée d'étude "Dynamiques intergénérationnelles dans les archives minoritaires du monde anglophone"

Since the 1990s and what has come to be known as the “archival turn”, researchers have shown that archives are not simple collections of documents, but social constructs shaped by power struggles. Community archives, dedicated to minority or less visible groups, have been constituted against or outside the normative spaces of official archives to preserve these groups’ heritage, produce counternarratives and support their agency.

This symposium proposes to examine community archives through the lens of intergenerational dynamics. It focuses first on the ways in which archives are transmitted, reinterpreted, transformed and reactivated over time. It also analyses the relationships between different generations of actors, whether these involve collaborations, tensions or new directions.

The final line of inquiry concerns the issues raised by the evolution of archival formats.
